There's a new Festival coming to town

From next year, Cheltenham will have a new festival to join the ranks of its world-famous literature, jazz, science and music events.

The Cheltenham Film Festival is due to be launched on May 25 2019 by the Cheltenham Film Trust and will feature five days of red-carpet events across Montpellier, the Brewery, the Promenade and High Street.

Founder and director Leslie Sheldon said the focus will be on directors. He said: “We will look to discover and promote young, independent filmmakers, and pay homage to film directors who have already achieved critical acclaim and commercial success by screening their early films. Many of them are classics.”

He wants the film festival to complement the town’s other high profile festivals and says, “There is a gap in the Cheltenham festival calendar and we aim to correct this. In so doing, we hope to draw worldwide attention to Cheltenham as a centre for cinema."

The festival will be launched in association with the University of Gloucestershire and with the support of the Cheltenham Business Improvement District, Cheltenham Borough Council, Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce, Visit Cheltenham, Cheltenham MP Alex Chalk and Cheltenham Festivals.

The event has support from Sochi International Film Festival and is also looking at a strategic alliance with Film Bath.  With an impressive 45 different events, Cheltenham's new Film Festival  will include screenings, question and answer sessions, master classes and receptions.
