£5 Million new Sixth Form for Cleeve School Image

£5 Million new Sixth Form for Cleeve School

A brand new £5million sixth form centre of excellence has been launched at Cleeve School.

The facility, at the school in Bishop’s Cleeve, near Cheltenham, will be used by sixth-formers for the first time on September 5.

Staff say they are delighted with the building, which is on the western side of the Two Hedges Road-based school and took 18 months to build.

It will cater for more than 330 sixth-formers and will also be available for the public to use. The school’s principal, Alwyn Richards, said the new centre was a “very exciting” addition.

He said: “Far more than just a highly impressive building, it symbolises the very high aspirations that we have for all of our students, regardless of their stage in education.

“Our powerful vision sees the sixth form centre of excellence as a beacon for all students – our offer to all, based on their achievements during Years 7 to 11, is that there is a place for them in the sixth form.

“By creating a school where all aspire to be in the sixth form, then the cultural change becomes profound and transformative.”

The new centre’s facilities include classrooms, a lecture theatre, a small cafe, communal areas, quiet study rooms, meeting and seminar rooms, a computer suite and technology touchdown zones.

Mr Richards added: “On day one in September, all new Year 7 students will purposefully have their first assembly in the new sixth form centre itself. The message will be clear - ‘Look around you. This is a fabulous part of the school. You can and will be part of this in five years’ time. Aim high and have big dreams about what you can achieve at Cleeve. This is your moment – seize all of the opportunities and an offer for a place in the sixth form will be made to you.’”

The official opening date is Friday October 12.
